We started in 2017 as Smoke & Games and then became The Modern Arcade of Rock Hill in 2021. Our goal is to provide a venue that caters to the growth of the gaming community. There were no venues in Rock Hill that provided an opportunity for gamers to gather in person as most activity went virtual. In-person interactions between gamers were becoming a thing of arcades past. Gamers now have a place to meet those who share similar interests in an available open setting!

Crucial partnerships were necessary to make any of this possible.
Winthrop University, Winthrop Athletics, and Winthrop Esports were supporting competitive Esports and started to accomplish national recognition and accolades at the collegiate level.

Our goals aligned to allow us to work together to provide a technology-driven venue that would both house the Winthrop Esports teams and provide a space also for the gaming community. The Modern Arcade will provide operational services that grant Winthrop and Rock Hill communities an opportunity to gain access to the facility.
